Elliot reveals latest Liverpool acquisition
Elliot Group has acquired a 1.3-acre site on Crown Street on the edge of Liverpool’s Knowledge Quarter, and is working up designs for the development of 106 key worker homes and 182 student bedrooms.
The plot is currently occupied by a former church and a probation centre, both now closed. It was acquired with vacant possession at auction and sits within the Canning Street Conservation Area.
The proposed scheme, designed by Falconer Chester Hall, is made up of two blocks rising up to six storeys fronting Crown Street and Falkner Street, stepping down to five storeys at Chancellor Court. Pre-application discussions are under way with Liverpool City Council. Zerum is acting as planning consultant.
Elliot Lawless, managing director of Elliot Group, said: “It’s a perfect location, on the edge of the Knowledge Quarter and around the corner from the women’s hospital. It’s a quiet and established residential area but with great amenities nearby. Paddington Village is at the end of Crown Street and we can expect to benefit from that as all the new workspace fills up.”
Like that. Big improvement on what’s currently there.
It’s very like Elliot’s earlier Bedford Street scheme, which always struck me as one storey too high, but there’s the space here to accommodate the height so it will sit better in the street-scape.

Very nice they fit in with the historical Georgian Quarter

Someone has faith in the city, good.

Excellent news for Canning. More of this please – and reinstating the street pattern, when the Women’s Hospital eventually moves.

All very good but lets not make any excuses and just get on with it before they change their mind and build them in Manchester.

A good looking scheme on historic Crown Street. I think this is outside the conservation area, by the way, but Crown Street was the original 1830 terminal of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway and is therefore important. I agree with the other commentator about reinstating the original street pattern when the ‘Women’s’ relocates. Full marks to Elliot Group for putting their profits back into Liverpool and keeping the momentum going. He’s right that the prospects for this area are very good with its proximity to Paddington Village. Let’s make more of Crown Street Park and celebrate the 200th anniversary of LMR! Wouldn’t it be great if we could reinstate the Moorish Arch. Some news on a Merseyrail station in the old Wapping tunnel would be the icing on the cake!

More student accomodation……wonderful

Some neo-Georgian elevations would not have gone amiss!
By Acelius
Yes, neo-Georgian elevations would be great in the right location where the townscape would benefit, but architects don’t seem to be able to do it well anymore, funny really because it should be simple enough.
Great George’s Square: a Georgian Square with just a couple of fragments of original architecture left (about 25%).. This would be a good location!

Liverpool Women’s Hospital will stay where it is if the women of Liverpool have their say, and we are kinda hard to shut up.Never mind comments about are planning roads when it goes, it’s staying put.

@Felicity Dowling – not if you speak with Mrs Sceptical. Our three were born in there and in every instance we found it dirty, noisy and unhygienic. Medical and nursing staff ran the spectrum from absolutely outstanding to ‘couldn’t give a t0ss’ and the place was more akin to a zoo than a place of rest and recovery. Couldn’t wait to escape in every instance. One can only hope it has improved since then.

It is not within the conservation area. https://liverpool.gov.uk/media/8587/conservation-areas-whole-city-29-04-2014-a0.pdf
