Network Space wins Altrincham approval

Trafford’s planning committee has greenlit the developer’s plans for 205,000 sq ft of industrial space, also agreeing with officers to dismiss a proposed Timperley care home.

The committee agreed with officers that plans from New Care, which are being appealed on non-determination grounds, should have been refused, had they reached the committee stage before New Care launched its appeal.

Network Space proposes the redevelopment of the former Cartwright trailer manufacturing site into 205,000 sq ft of industrial space.

Working with Aew Architects and planner Spawforths, Network Space lodged plans in September 2021 for a project that will see five new buildings created and three existing ones converted, resulting in a modernised complex featuring 25 units ranging from 2,100 sq ft to 28,000 sq ft.

The scheme is billed as Broadheath Networkcentre. Tetra Tech and Walker Sime are also on the professional team for the 11.6-acre Atlantic Street development.

In line with officer recommendation, Trafford’s planning and development management committee voted in favour of the plans, the majority vote being a comfortable win. A motion to restrict hours of access was also denied.

In order to set out the council’s position ahead of a likely inquiry, the committee was also asked to consider what its verdict would be for plans proposed by New Care for the Pelican Inn and Altrincham Lodge site on the A56 in Timperley.

The developer, which is working with Eden Planning and C4 Architects on the project, is appealing against Trafford on grounds of non-determination of its plans for the Manchester Road plot, which comprise 22 apartments and a 75-bed care home.

Officers recommended a “minded to refuse” verdict, which was agreed on by the panel. A motion was subsequently agreed that the application should be discussed in more depth at the next meeting in order to consider in full its reasons for refusal.

In a separate matter, retirement living specialist Churchill last month withdrew an appeal on another Timperley pub site, saying it would work with the council to find a way forward.
