Muller goes for 73 Burnley homes
The Cheshire property company is seeking planning permission for a 5.4-acre brownfield site, formerly occupied by Lodge Mill.
Lodge Mill was demolished in 2015, having most recently been occupied by caravans business ET Riddiough. The site sits on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, close to Reedley Marina.
The site is allocated for housing in the Burnley Local Plan. Muller’s application, now submitted, covers 73 homes to include two- three- and four-bedroom houses, including mews, semis and detached homes.
Lined by mature trees, the site is accessed directly off Barden Lane and benefits from canal frontage. The Muller proposal includes the creation of a green corridor along the canal with a number of properties fronting directly onto the water.
Colin Muller, chief executive at Muller Property Group said, “We hope to secure planning for this well-located site to deliver a high-quality scheme of much-needed new homes for the local area.
“This is an ideal location within walking distance of the town centre for a sustainable residential development on a brownfield site and we are looking forward to working with the team at Burnley Borough Council to deliver it.”
Plans were revealed this summer for stretches of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal to be animated with a “string of pearls” linear park development, Burnley being one of four councils involved.
Earlier this year, Muller had plans for an apartment and retail scheme in Sandbach refused by Cheshire East Council, the second iteration of that scheme to fail at committee.
No problem with the building site BUT the access & exit to the new development will be a nightmare!! The only safe way will be to have traffic lights, as the entrances to this site and the Marina site opposite are between the railway bride and canal bridge and cannot be seen clearly when traveling up or down Barden Lane!! There have already been fatalities in this area!!

The volume of cars on Barden Lane is high already with homes in the area along with traffic making its way to the bypass. The canal and railway bridges can be difficult to navigate as it is.
