Middlebrook M&S to double in size

The retailer will expand into two vacant units adjacent to its 35,000 sq ft store at the Horwich retail park, increasing its floorspace to just shy of 73,000 sq ft.

Landlord Orbit Developments has announced M&S will refurbish its existing Middlebrook store, which it has occupied for around 20 years, and take over the empty former Wilko unit and well as the one currently housing Boots.

Orbit said it is working with Boots to “ensure their continued presence” at Middlebrook.

As well as spreading out into the two neighbouring units, M&S will build a small extension to the rear of the store.

The planned M&S store has been described as “brand defining” by Orbit and will “bring a renewed vibrancy” to Middlebrook.

Work is expected to commence later in 2025, with the new M&S store expected to open in December 2026.

M&S will continue to trade throughout.
