Britcon hands over in Hattersley

Maple Grove Developments has taken possession of the £13m Hattersley Trade Park from the contractor, a 57,000 sq ft scheme including trade counter space and an Aldi foodstore.

MGD, Eric Wright Group’s development arm, said the project has transformed a long-vacant brownfield site off Stockport Road and Ashworth Lane into a high-quality, mixed-use destination. The 5.5-acre plot had been vacant for 15 years.

Delivery of the scheme means Tameside Council is close to delivering the district centre for Hattersley that it has long sought to achieve, having put plans in motion in 2015 and originally brought in MGD in 2016.

Plans were subsequently reworked, with securing Aldi as anchor a key moment.

The completed development provides eight modern trade counter units ranging from 3,000 to 6,000 sq ft – accounting for 32,000 sq ft in total – alongside Aldi and a Costa Coffee café and drive-through.

The site also includes 179 customer parking spaces and an ultra-rapid electric vehicle charging hub delivered in partnership with Be.EV.
Partners involved in the project include Onward Homes, Tameside Council, The Harris Partnership, Abacus Cost Management, ICIS Design and Knight Frank.

MGD said the development is on track to achieve an EPC A rating across all units, alongside a BREEAM Very Good certification for the Aldi and Costa elements of the scheme and BREEAM Excellent for the remainder.
