Merseyside Estates signs Cammell Laird for HQ

Cammell Laird Shiprepairers & Shipbuilders is expanding into a new head office next door to the eponymous shipyard in Birkenhead at Abbotts Quay Business Park.

The shipyard is enjoy resurgence after nearly closing a decade ago and employs around 300 core workers. Peel Ports owns 50% of the Cammell Laird yard following its acquisition of Mersey Docks & Harbour Company.

Cammell Laird will occupy a 4,500 sq ft office on a 10-year lease as well as keeping its current office in the yard. Abbotts Quay has six standalone units. Other occupiers include construction solicitors Kerrigans, marketing agency ICE and accountants the Priory Partnership.

John Syvret, chief executive of Cammell Laird, said: "We have been looking for some time to set up our group headquarters and the location of this building, adjacent to the ship yard, is a logistically perfect position for us."
