Merseyrail Wirral Line gets new park-and-rides
Two new park-and-ride facilities will be created in Wirral at Bidston and Birkenhead North train stations by Merseytravel, funded by European Regional Development Fund on land owned by Wirral Council.
The Merseyrail Wirral Line park-and-rides will provide 464 parking spaces when they open in December 2012.
There will be dedicated Blue Badge parking, lighting and CCTV coverage, secure fencing and landscaping within the sites. The new park and rides will improve access onto the rail network with links to Wrexham, Birkenhead and Liverpool.
Cllr Liam Robinson, chairman of Merseytravel, said: "Many of our park-and-ride facilities are already very busy or at capacity and we know that people rely on them as part of their regular journeys.
"With passenger usage on Merseyrail on the up we are working hard to provide park and ride facilities across the region and we are delighted to be able to add two more stations to the existing provision."
Wirral Council has made brownfield land available for both schemes, which are to be delivered through the CEEQUAL process which is a sustainability rating system which recognises projects achieving high environmental and social performance.
Park & Ride at Bidston? biggest waste of money ever. what benefits do WBC see in putting a 190 soace car park, away from the station, a station that has limited access, few trains and no better financial benefit than starting your journey at similar more accessable stations

Away from the station? It most definitely is not!
