McDonald’s eyes Clayton-le-Woods restaurant

The fast food giant is consulting on proposals to build an outlet on the site of the former Beaumont pub in the Lancashire town.

McDonald’s wants to construct the restaurant on the one-acre former Beaumont site off Woodale Road.

The pub, owned by Admiral Taverns, was put up for sale with a guide price of £1.25m last year.

A website set up to host the consultation on McDonald’s proposals states that the site is in “an ideal location for a new drive-thru restaurant” due to its proximity to an existing commercial area. An Asda superstore and a Starbucks are located nearby.

McDonald’s claims that the restaurant would be in “a convenient location for the people of Clayton-le-Woods and the surrounding area, helping to enhance food choices locally”.

It is estimated the site could create 120 jobs.

McDonald’s is also progressing plans for a restaurant in Cheadle Hulme. The fast-food chain submitted plans for a 4,000 sq ft restaurant on a vacant plot of land at Stanley Green Retail Park last spring. The application has not yet been determined.

Children would hang around late a night causing problems for residents

Drive-thrus should be banned, they cause unnecessary traffic and people litter their rubbish out their car windows.

I strongly object to a McDonald’s fast food restaurant in Clayton le Woods.
Clayton le Woods is officially classified as a village, and in my opinion, a fast food restaurant should be in a town centre, or close to.
I’m concerned about the extra vehicles this could create in the area. You obviously need alot of footfall to justify this, so all of these vehicles will be on the roads in this area.
The potential for litter is very concerning, with people throwing their litter on the floor, or from moving vehicles, as is frequently seen.
I’m also dubious about the number of jobs that you state will be created. Surely this should be used for a different type of business, creating high- paid careers, rather than low- paid jobs for students.
No to this proposal.

I would object to mc Donald’s building a drive through in clayton le woods, there are sufficient mc Donald’s close by in Chorley and Leyland. These sites have been plagued by anti social behaviour as a congregation place for youths. Clayton le woods does not have police close to hand to respond. I also would like to see evidence as to the claim of number of jobs this would create, and how the increase in traffic would be managed. The area has a number of residential areas in close proximity the impact on them would no doubt be felt significantly , I object strongly to this proposal .
