Manchester John Lewis stores continue sales slump
John Lewis Partnership released its sales figures for its selling branches and buying offices today, showing a downturn in sales at Greater Manchester's two John Lewis stores.
Overall, the privately owned retail reported an increase of 0.4% in sales compared to the same recorded period last year across all its stores.
Cheadle's John Lewis store, however, showed an 8.4% drop in sales for the week ending 19 July, while the company's Trafford Centre store recorded a 3.1% decrease in sales.
Figures for Liverpool's new John Lewis store at the recently opened Liverpool One shopping district were not released due to it only opening in May.
The group, nonetheless, reported a 50% increase on visitors to its website and, across all its stores, like-for-like fashion sales were up 5.7%.
Patrick Lewis, director of retail operations, said: "After a slow start, the week picked up well, netting a solid increase over the last four days. Selling through clearance lines was still our major focus, but it was encouraging to see the extra transitional stock that we've sourced hitting the mark."
