Lofthouse can breathe easy after Fisherman’s Friend approval

Wyre Council has given the green light for the construction of a 390,000 sq ft manufacturing facility for Fleetwood’s most famous export.

Fisherman’s Friend owner Lofthouse wants to replace its existing ageing complex, which is close to the end of its lifespan, with a modern new-build factory.

Fisherman’s Friend has been trading since 1865 and sells its menthol lozenges all over the world. The company has been located at its existing site since 1974.

Plans for the overhaul have been in the works for several years; architect Good & Tillotson was appointed in 2019 to look at design options.

The scheme will see the company relocate to a 20-acre site on the opposite side to Amounderness Way to the existing facility.

In 2015, the site was the subject of proposals from Reform Energy N.W. for a 160,000 sq ft fish processing facility. However, the plans never went ahead.

Goodwin Planning Services is advising Lofthouse on planning matters.
