Kevin McCabe to run Blackpool business centre
Yorkshire developer Kevin McCabe's Scarborough Group International has taking over the tenancy of an 11,000 sq ft business centre on Queen Street formerly run by Blackpool council.
SGI will provide three floors of newly refurbished office accommodation for businesses via its subsidiary, Forsyth Business Centres. The building is owned by SGI.
Doug Garrett, chief executive of the town's regeneration body ReBlackpool, said: "It's fantastic that a high profile company such as SGI is looking at creating opportunities like this for businesses in the area.
"Blackpool's economy has seen a major decline is recent years. The job market has taken quite a hit, so this is just the kind of thing we want to see happening."
However, Garrett added: "Things are starting to look up for Blackpool as the weak pound and the recession persuades more people to holiday in the UK instead of abroad. Travelodge has recently opened two new hotels in the town and the seafront is undergoing a massive £87million redevelopment – scheduled to be finished this year."
Chris Burke, a surveyor at SGI, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for the Scarborough Group – the office suites are in a great location situated near to the North Pier and adjacent to the Golden Mile.
"Blackpool is a town with the potential to capitalise on the recession. It is also in a great location, with Manchester and Liverpool both less than an hour away."
