Homes dominate Cheshire East planning agenda
Cheshire East Council’s planning committee will meet tomorrow to consider several significant developments for the borough, including a range of residential proposals totalling 850 homes.
In Alsager, planning officers have recommended Barratt’s plans for 407 homes on the former Manchester Metropolitan University campus for approval.
Barratt would demolish the existing buildings on the site, and would build a £4m sports centre alongside the houses. According to a report to the council, site remediation will cost up to £10m to solve foundation and drainage issues.
The planning committee will also consider three applications from the Foundation of Sir John Percyvale, which are asking for planning approval for the relocation of King’s School in Macclesfield to a 52-acre site off Derby Fields near Prestbury, with the vacated site used to develop up to 450 homes.
At Fence Avenue, buildings occupied by a girl’s school would be partially demolished and redeveloped to make way for 300 homes, while the boy’s school on Westminster Road would be cleared for 150 houses.
At the same meeting on 27 July, proposals from Cedar Invest for a £13m retail park at Barracks Mill, Macclesfield, have been put forward for approval.
The site has been derelict since 2004. The retail park will total 130,000 sq ft, and has occupiers such as KFC and Costa Coffee signed up to operate units.
While recommended for refusal, councillors are due to hear a presentation from representatives of Cheshire Lakes Community Interest Company, which is seeking sign-off for plans for a £1.6m development of a watersports activity centre at a former quarry in Chelford.
