Hilti signs at Carrington

The construction products provider is to move to Himor’s Carrington Gateway, where it has taken the scheme’s largest unit, comprising 104,000 sq ft.

The move was announced yesterday to the business’ UK & Ireland warehouse teams, currently based at Bredbury Parkway.

Eric Wright Construction has delivered the first phase of Carrington Gateway, comprising six industrial units, fronting Manchester Road and ranging in size between 11,000 sq ft and 104,000 sq ft. The units were designed by architect AEW, and were built speculatively on a 19-acre site.

The wider Future Carrington site, formerly home to the Shell petrochemical works and billed by Himor as one of the largest regeneration projects of its type in the country, with the potential for up to 11,500 new homes and 8m sq ft of employment development over the next 20-30 years. Consent was given by Trafford Council in May this year for Carrington Village, covering 320 homes and 700,000 sq ft of employment space.

Gilberto Matias, Hilti’s region head of logistics for Northern Europe said: “We want to offer our teams a facility that is best in class, like the team itself, and that works for our needs today. We also want to make sure that any facility that we move to is flexible enough to work for our need’s tomorrow: to be fit for the future.

“Our key priorities for any fit for the future solution were to ensure business continuity, to ensure that we had the space and capacity to support future growth, and to ensure that our facility is safe and secure. Carrington Gateway offers us all of those things and we are excited to make the move.”

The warehouse move follows Hilti’s plans announced in February this year that its UK head office and Northern Europe hub is to move to 42,000 sq ft at Circle Square in central Manchester.

Matias Jarnefelt, general manager GB and region head for Northern Europe said: “Carrington Gateway offers us the space we need now, and the potential to grow in the future.

“Our move represents a significant investment in the future of our logistics function and together with our move to Circle Square further demonstrates our commitment to the Manchester area.”

Colliers and JLL are agents for Carrington Gateway.
