Gwynedd unanimously approves Bangor primary school
Ysgol Ei’n Harglwyddes has outgrown its aging building. Now that planning permission has been secured, it can move to a new-build school off Caernarfon Road.
Gwynedd Council approved the Bangor primary school during its planning committee meeting on Monday.
Ysgol Ei’n Harglwyddes is currently operating out of a building near the railway bridge on Ffordd Caernarfon. The building is nearing the end of its serviceable life and has several maintenance issues, according to the design and access statement by [Not Just] Architecture.
The new school will be built on the site of the 2.5-acre site of the old Ysgol Glanadda. Ysgol Glanadda shut down in 2020 and is already set to be demolished.

The new building will be double the size of the old school, coming in at 14,400 sq ft. The single-storey Ysgol Ei’n Harglwyddes would offer 150 places for primary students, 20 for those in nursery, and 30 for those in Cylch Meithrin.
Altogether, the school would be capable of teaching up to 200 students between the age of two and 11.
In addition to classrooms, the school would have a multi-use games area and a sports field. A 22-space car park would also be on site, with two spaces for electric vehicles to charge and another two for those with disabilities.
[Not Just] Architecture worked with consultant architect Saer Architects on the design. Mach Group is the noise consultant. Development Planning is the transport expert. Cambrian Ecology is the ecology assessor. Lingard Farrow Styles is the landscape architect. McCann and partners was the engineer who helps with BREEAM assessments.
The application’s reference number with Gwynedd Council’s planning portal is C22/1020/11/LL.
