Griffiths selected as chair of Liverpool housing associations consortium
Cobalt Housing’s chief executive Claire Griffiths will succeed Léann Hearne in the role.
Liverpool City Region Housing Associations is made up of 22 registered providers and aims to elevate standards and increase delivery of social and affordable housing across Wirral, Liverpool, St Helens, Halton, Knowsley, and Sefton.
Griffiths, who joined Cobalt three years ago from Irwell Valley Homes, said it was a privilege to be selected as the consortium’s new chair.
“I’m honoured and excited to step into this role at a pivotal moment for our region and the housing sector,” she said. “Housing remains one of the most powerful tools we have to drive meaningful social, economic and environmental change.
“I’m proud to take forward the work Léann has championed. Her unwavering commitment to people and place has set a strong foundation for the future of the LCRHA, and I look forward to continuing to drive real positive change across the region.”
Outgoing chair Hearne, added: “Over the past three years I’ve been proud to lead the LCRHA and use our combined impact to make things better for our customers, communities and the LCR, at large.”
Research by the Housing Associations Charitable Trust estimates that LCRHA generated £115m in social value during the last financial year.
“Looking at our latest social value figures just blows me away and I’m confident that under Claire’s leadership, the group will continue having a positive impact on those who live in our region,” Hearne said.
“Her understanding of the sector and the challenges we must address will be instrumental to the continued success of the group and I wish her all the best.”
The LCRHA members are: Alpha, Anchor, Cobalt Housing, Crosby Housing Association, ForViva, Halton Housing, Livv Housing Group, Magenta Living, OneVision Housing, Onward, Pine Court Housing Association, Plus Dane Housing, Prima, Regenda, Riverside, Sanctuary, Steve Biko Housing Association, South Liverpool Homes, Sovini, Torus, Wirral Methodist Housing Association, and Your Housing Group.
Collectively, the consortium owns and manages more than 213,000 homes and serves 450,000 residents.
Regenda and Torus have been doing some great things of late at Grove St and Stanley Locks. I would like to see the consortium working together to make better use of large sites and provide wholesale regeneration, for example the recently announced Lidl development on Wavertree Rd is just not good enough for the large ex Taskers site it needs joined up working between the Council, Housing Associations, and the retailers, that will produce sustainable, attractive, neighbourhoods that can show the City is regenerating thoughtfully.
