Hochtief lands £250m Silicon Sands concession
The infrastructure giant has secured preferred supplier status for the first phase of the flagship Blackpool data centre project.
A tender was published towards the end of 2025 inviting bids to deliver and operate the first phase of Silicon Sands, with an estimated value of £250m.
Blackpool Council announced the scheme’s first planning application, for a £60m-£80m centre combining a 34,000 sq ft centre with 6MW capacity and 20,000 sq ft of office space, in November last year.
That initial application was approved by neighbouring Fylde Council, the ruling authority for the site, in May. At least two further data centres are already planned for, with the aspiration being for many more at the 50-acre campus.
Global infrastructure giant Hochtief appointed Warren Taylor, formerly of North West developer Cityheart, to head its push into the UK and Ireland data centre market last summer, working from the group’s Cheadle base.
According to Construction Enquirer, Hochtief Data Centre Partner UK beat off competition from EdgeSynergies and Deep Green Technologies to secure the long-tern Silicon Sands concession.
All parties declined to comment.
