▼3 Hardman Street, Manchester
- Designed by Sheppard Robson
- The building was classified BREEAM excellent on 20 March 2010
- Hardman Street showcases the latest innovations in sustainable technology
Internal specifications
- Features of the building include a fritted glass screen, the latest in sustainable façade technology. The vertical glazed screens are fritted in solid horizontal bands to provide a nominal 50% shading, the screens project forward of the clear glazing to the main body of the façade. Solar gains through the clear elements are reduced, lowering cooling requirements and reducing glare.
- Daylight-linked lighting controls reduce energy consumption, water usage is minimised and the building's flexibility can respond to changing needs for generations to come.
External specifications
- The quality of public realm and transport infrastructure have been vastly improved and connectivity has allowed staff to access the building from a multitude of destinations using bicycles, buses, trains and Manchester's innovative and sustainable metro system.
- The Spinningfields site has its own surface water drainage system, which was constructed as part of the initial site-wide infrastructure works. This enables all surface water from hard surfaces to be collected and discharged directly to the River Irwell, rather than discharged into Manchester's combined surface and foul water system. This sustainable drainage initiative significantly reduces unnecessary flows through the down-stream sewage processing plant and the risk of flooding in times of storms.
