Glare becomes chairman of BDP India

Francis Glare, a senior urban planner at BDP in Manchester, has been appointed visiting chairman of the practice's studio in New Delhi.

A main board director, Glare is BDP's head of urbanism and takes over from the former New Delhi office chairman Shaym Khandekar, who has retired.

The studio is working on 17 live projects in more than 10 locations across the country.

Projects being delivered by BDP include a prestigious university campus at Mandi for the India Institute of Technology, in the foothills of the Himalaya, for which the first phase is built and open, and a masterplan for an Edu-Health and Conference 'city' in Kerala in the south for development agency INKEL.

Glare leads an urbanism team in Manchester whose urban design work for BDP in the North West includes the Stirling Prize-nominated Liverpool One retail regeneration scheme, as well as several urban planning and regeneration frameworks for Manchester City Council.

He will continue to work on projects across the North West and the Manchester city region.

BDP practice Chairman David Cash, also based at the Manchester studio, said: "BDP shares the Manchester city region's internationalising agenda to export Manchester expertise and services.

"BDP's work in India and other territories reinforces Manchester's position as an international hub for design and construction sector services and grows the Manchester brand abroad."
