Future of NW Heritage Open Days secured
English Heritage has secured the future of Heritage Open Days ensuring that North West events will go ahead as planned.
It means this year's glimpse inside the workings of the historic Manchester Barclays bank and Cumbria cabinetmakers, Peter Hall & Son in Kendal, will now take place.
English Heritage previously helped the Civic Trust to fund and operate Heritage Open Days, but concern had been raised over the future of the event since the Civic Trust in England announced it had gone into administration.
Events now set to go ahead during the weekend of 10-13 September also includes talks and a photographic exhibition at the usually private site at Elterwater, Cumbria, of the famous Merzbarn sculpture, created by the German artist Kurt Schwitters in 1947.
A full-size representation will be displayed since the original has been in the Hatton Gallery at Newcastle since 1966.
During Heritage Open Days, more than 3,500 historic and unusual buildings open their doors to the public for free and put on tours and events.
