Enterprise joins Shanghai 2010 sponsors

Infrastructure maintenance group Enterprise has signed up as a main sponsor of the Liverpool Pavilion at the World Expo next year.

The company has worked with Liverpool City Council delivering street maintenance and other front-line contracts for many years.

The amount paid for the sponsorship package was not disclosed. The Liverpool Shanghai website states main sponsors pay £75,000.

Dominic de Prochnow, head of international business at Enterprise, added: "It is a great privilege to attend the World Expo. Enterprise is looking forward to meeting representatives from countries across the world and all of the organisations involved. The goal of increasing awareness of our environment, the energy we use and the importance of urban investment are messages that Enterprise supports fully because they are at the heart of our business activities.

"Enterprise has a commitment to continuous improvement and proactively sources 'greener' technologies to minimise environmental impact and benefit the areas in which it works.

"The partnership Enterprise has with Liverpool City Council and its close links with the sustainable improvement of the city means it is proud to support the event."

So far Peel Holdings and EA Technology have also signed up from the private sector to support Liverpool at the event.

Liverpool is the only UK city to have a dedicated presence at the World Expo. Its participation is being led by Liverpool Vision in partnership with Liverpool City Council, the Liverpool-Shanghai Partnership and the North West Development Agency.

The World Expo runs between 1 May 1 and 31 October and will attract around 70 million visitors.

Members of the GMB union employed by Enterprise in Liverpool took part in strikes over the summer over pay and conditions.

is it just me or does anyone else suspect bidders for council contracts in liverpool have to factor in sponsorship of stuff like this at the outset? there’s a dull thud of inevitability about this news landing.
