Early 2012 start for Speke housing scheme, says Peel

Barratt Homes and the Peel Group plan to start on site early next year with a major housing scheme close to Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

Peel and Barratt launched a partnership in the summer to bring forward housing developments on Peel sites across the North.

Liverpool City Council approved their plans for 268 homes on 19 acres off Speke Hall Avenue at a planning meeting at the end of November.

The plans comprise two and three-storey properties, providing two, three and four bedroom family houses.

Five nearby residents wrote to the council opposing the development on greenfield land. Some said the land was important to local wildlife and offered a habitat to barn owls and rare butterflies.

Louise Morrissey, director of land and planning at Peel, said: "We are pleased to achieve this significant success to help towards the continuing regeneration of the Speke-Garston corridor.

"Peel is happy to have found the right partner and projects to deliver significant investment in major new development schemes to serve local demand."

Neil Goodwin, managing director of Barratt Manchester, said: "Our on-going, constructive relationship with Liverpool City Council assisted in the planning application being determined in early course.

"This is a great achievement very early in the life of the framework agreement between Peel and Barratt and we are looking forward to further progress in the coming months."
