Countryside starts on Brinnington resi pipeline

Ground has been broken at a housing site on Blackberry Lane in Brinnington, the first scheme in Stockport Council’s plan for the regeneration of the area.

Countryside, the council’s preferred housing developer in Brinnington, has approval to build 281 houses across several sites in the area over the next five years. Ninety nine homes are to be delivered on the Blackberry Lane site, offering a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom houses.

The Brinnington Regeneration Plan, part of the Council’s Investing in Stockport Programme, will also include the development of a £5m sports and leisure facility in Brinnington Park, replacing the existing Lapwing Centre.

Cllr Sheila Bailey, Stockport Council’s executive member for communities and housing, said: “The new housing development in Brinnington will provide opportunities both for local people and those wishing to move into the area. Stockport needs more housing and this development will make a valuable contribution to our overall housing provision.”

Blackberry Lane and the Lapwing Centre were identified in a 2010 Bilfinger GVA report commissioned by the council and the Homes & Communities Agency into addressing Brinnington’s issues of physical isolation from the wider Stockport area.
