Council moves forward with Hale centre proposals
Trafford Council has started the search for a development partner for a prominent site next to Hale railway station, which will be redeveloped for housing and improved parking facilities.
The council is looking to appoint a delivery partner for the site, currently used as a surface car park, between Brown Street and the Manchester to Chester railway line.
The car park is currently owned by Trafford Council.
Plans for the plot, which are at early stages, include a replacement 80-space car park, which will be operated as pay-and-display, alongside a small housing development.
The council estimates it could build around 11 homes on the site, and has set a provision of 40% of these as affordable.
The houses, which could be either apartments or townhouses, are expected to have “a high-quality design that is compatible with nearby housing, and its proximity to Hale Station Conservation Area,” according to the council.
Any development will be subject to a full financial appraisal before detailed plans are submitted.
According to tender documents the council is looking to appoint a partner with local market knowledge, and one that can deliver a “suitably experienced contractor” and design team to work up proposals and build the project.
A partner is expected to be appointed in April next year, and the project will complete by March 2020.

Wonder if Citybranch will be the lucky chosen one this time…

The only disabled access to the Manchester platform on Hale Station is through the car park. I trust this will be taken into account when the planning is being done.
