Contract awarded for Edge Hill sports centre

John Turner Construction Group has been awarded a £3.8m contract to build the shell of a new sports centre for Edge Hill University in Ormskirk.

On completion, the development will include an eight court sports hall, fitness suite, a 3,500 sq ft swimming pool and health suite, in addition to changing rooms and a lounge area.

The scheme is the latest in a series of projects at the University site. In January Edge Hill University was successful in its planning application to provide an additional 245-bedroom hall of residence on the eastern campus, the eighth phase of an extensive residential development programme. John Turner acted as main contractor on phases six and seven, which both completed last year.

The shell is expected to complete in August with the full project completed in December 2014.

John Turner is also currently on site on a £3.9m project for the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine to create a Centre for Maternal and Child Health opposite the school's main research centre.
