Consultation ending on Manchester transport plan
Residents, businesses and other interest groups have until next Friday to submit their views on the draft 2040 Vision for Transport in Greater Manchester.
The 12-week public consultation, coordinated by Transport for Greater Manchester on behalf of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, is calling for final submissions which will be used to inform future transport strategy in the region.
The 2040 Vision explores the transport building blocks required for Greater Manchester to achieve its full potential over the next 25 years and beyond.
The document assesses some of the key changes in store for Greater Manchester and looks forward to what success for the region could look like in 2040. Examining Manchester’s future as a globally connected city, the document considers improved city-to-city links, modes of travel around the regional centre, travel across the wider city region and ways of connecting neighbourhoods.
Cllr Jim McMahon, transport lead for GMCA, said: “Our goal is to produce a bold and ambitious long-term strategy which can stand the test of time, and meet the many and complex transport needs of our city region.
“Looking ahead to 2040 will allow us to plan and deliver a truly resilient infrastructure network, creating an innovative and progressive approach to delivering economic growth, while building a sustainable greener future with improved quality of life for all.
“One simple question we want as many people as possible to answer is – do you share our vision for transport in 2040?”
The 2040 Vision consultation is the first step in the development of a more detailed Greater Manchester Transport Strategy for 2040, replacing the current Greater Manchester Local Transport Plan, to be published in 2016. The long-term strategy will be a tool for GMCA and GM Local Enterprise Partnership, as the city region prepares for the devolution of more powers which will enable Greater Manchester to deliver a more integrated and better co-ordinated transport network.
