Carillion marks topping out at Four Piccadilly Place

Contractor Carillion has reached the highest point in the construction of the latest office building at Carlyle and Argent's Piccadilly Place in Manchester.

The 110,000 sq ft building started on site in May 2008 and is due for completion in September 2009.

The scheme currently comprises a four-star City Inn Hotel; 167 apartment development, The Hub; Three Piccadilly Place, a 200,000 sq ft office development and Two Piccadilly Place, offices occupied by Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive.

David Liming, managing director of Carillion Building, said: "Piccadilly Place has displayed an excellent safety record and is a testimony to the hard work that the project team has put in over the years achieving such a high standard of construction. The building utilises the latest forms of concrete frame construction and incorporates prefabricated unisex toilets and prefabricated modular building services to achieve optimum programme advantage."

Floorplates at Four Piccadilly Place range from 13,000 sq ft to 16,500 sq ft and there will be 11,000 sq ft of retail space on the ground floor. The building was designed to achieve the BREEAM 'excellent' standard, a rating already achieved at Three Piccadilly Place.

Designed by Hodder Associates, the eight-storey building features architectural fins on the west elevation, which provide a solar shading and depth to the façade. The lower levels are set back to create a double-storey colonnade and a pedestrian walkway to other parts of Piccadilly Place.

Savills and GVA Grimley are joint agents for Four Piccadilly Place.
