Caddick seals £18m Great Places contract

The builder will now deliver 82 East Manchester apartments on the corner of Ashton New Road for Great Places Housing Group, under the ongoing Grey Mare Lane regeneration masterplan.

Caddick Construction will deliver a mix of 57 one and 25 two-bedroom apartments for social rent, private and communal garden spaces, and a pedestrian link to improve connectivity in the area after securing the £18m contract for the Bowker Sadler-designed blocks.

The work, which is part-funded by Homes England and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority Brownfield Housing Fund, is expected to be completed in 2027.

Caddick has recently rounded off the 131-flat Edward Street scheme in Stockport, as well as bringing forward the £20m West Vale neighbourhood in Oldham, which has seen 26 houses and 62 apartments built for management by First Choice Homes Oldham.

Dave Saville, regional managing director of Caddick Construction North West, said: “We’re proud to be appointed to the first scheme of Great Places’ planned developments to bring much-needed affordable housing to the area.

“The project will play a key role in providing access to high-quality homes and creating a sustainable community for local people and families in East Manchester.

“We’re looking forward to working closely with Great Places to bring its vision for Grey Mare to life.”

Nick Gornall, director of development at Great Places, added: “We’re delighted to be working in partnership with Caddick Construction on this landmark scheme at Grey Mare Lane.

“Their expertise and collaborative approach have been vital in the pre-contract phase, and we look forward to delivering high-quality, affordable homes that meet local needs.

“This development is not only about creating new homes – it’s also about building a sustainable, vibrant community in East Manchester. Together, we’re committed to making a real difference to the people who live here.”
