Salboy swaps homes for padel in Worsley

An eight-court facility could be constructed on land off Leigh Road previously earmarked for 26 high-end homes.

Part of Salboy’s five-acre site close to RHS Garden Bridgewater is the subject of plans for a padel facility, which could occupy the plot for the next seven years, according to planning documents.

As well as eight covered doubles courts, changing rooms and other player facilities such as a cafe would be created within the Clockworks Building.

Nine other agricultural buildings would be knocked down to pave the way for the scheme.

The submission of plans for the padel facility is a marked departure from the earlier vision for the site. The developer lodged plans in January for a mix of detached and semi-detached homes.

The site forms part of a wider allocation in Places for Everyone that includes developer Peel’s plans for 295 homes to the east.

Architect Studio Power and planning consultant Euan Kellie Property Solutions are retained on the project team.

So essentially a meanwhile use for a high-value resi site because they are busy elsewhere at the moment and possibly have their capital tied up.

Greenbelt and parks are being eroded from Salford faster then Usain bolt 100 at run,
Why do developers think they can build on greenbelt land , assuming that this is beneficial to the local community, would it not be a magnificent gesture that instead of covering our green belt full of concrete or tarmac ,they gave us a community park, where people could enjoy there morning g,evening walks, so has to help people with there well being , health, it’s a place of beauty, relaxation, somewhere you can go to distress,
We all know that this area is one big car park r so it seems much of the day, any development would bring more chaos , so I for one would be opposed to their request.

Please protect what we have left off our green belt, we don’t need any more traffic congestion around Boothstown.

New Padel courts already opened up barely a mile down the Rd by Bridgewater Manor. Surely we’re all Padelled out by now.

You don’t want to be up a creek without a padel … plan B by the sound of it.

This site isn’t greenbelt.

Both this and the Peel plan need to be refused

Hard to think of a local authority in the whole of the UK that has done more brownfield development than Salford. Where do the people who don’t like greenbelt development think the people in the new brownfield apartments will go when they hit family stage.

Boy between this and Hazelhurst farm they really want to concrete over every bit of greenery left around Worsley.

Starting to think that padel courts are the new vape shops and barbers, if you know what I mean.
