BT takes 47,500 sq ft in Hyndburn
BT has signed a ten-year lease on 47,500 sq ft at the Globe Centre in Accrington for a new call centre.
The call centre will employ 300 staff and is due to open in the autumn. BT already has a long-term partnership with Lancashire County Council. Geoff Driver, leader of the council, said: "We've helped it find suitable accommodation, but ultimately BT wants to come to Lancashire because of the skills and expertise we already have here.
"These jobs will help to boost the county's economy and create some excellent new opportunities for local people."
The 150,000 sq ft Globe Centre was developed by Barnfield Construction in a joint venture with Hyndburn Council and Stuart Nevison, co-founder of Burnley based audio technology specialist AMS Neve. The building that BT will occupy, Globe 2, was acquired by Lancashire County Council.
Edwin Booth, chairman of Lancashire Enterprise Partnership, added: "A major global brand choosing to invest in Lancashire sends out very positive messages. For people in Hyndburn and the surrounding area it means lots of opportunities to work for a big name company that takes customer service seriously, it's great for the local economy in Accrington and it means that other businesses, thinking about where to base similar operations, will consider that Lancashire is worth a closer look."
