Blackpool Enterprise Zone £18.5m link road work to start
George Cox & Sons will be on site to carry out the pre-construction phase this month, to create a second entrance to the town’s business park.
According to Blackpool Council, this road scheme will unlock 26 acres of commercial land at the eastern gateway, which will be available for development from next summer.
It is anticipated work on the link road will begin as soon as the preliminary works are completed, with a £7.5m grant from the government’s Town Fund being used towards the project.
The enterprise zone is a 355-acre site covering Blackpool’s airport, retail park, business park, stretching to the border of Common Edge Road.
Though the zone is a joint project between Blackpool and Fylde Council, much of the land falls within the borough boundaries of Blackpool.
Work will also focus on joining up Common Edge Road and the business park on Amy Johnson Way, with plans to widen Common Edge Road and improve the School Road junction.
Additional lanes being created on Common Edge Road will enable two-way traffic to be maintained throughout the road and junction work.
Sports changing rooms at Jepson Way will be used as a site compound but the council says as this work will take place away from the main road, no additional traffic management will be required.
