Bellway bags Burtons Biscuits site

The housebuilder has completed the acquisition of the 24-acre former Burtons Biscuit factory site in Moreton, Wirral for an undisclosed sum and work to build 257 homes is underway.

Consent for the development, known as Jelicoe Gardens, was granted earlier this year.

The scheme features two-, three- and four-bedroom homes, 26 of which will be designated as affordable.

Consultancy Avison Young acted for Burtons in the land transaction, and Bellway was unrepresented.

Claire Robinson, associate director at Avison Young, said: “The houses that will be delivered on this brownfield site will help to address the shortage of new residential development in Wirral in a well-connected location, just 20 minutes outside of Liverpool.”

James McGivern, senior land manager at Bellway, added: “As well as delivering 26 affordable homes, Bellway will pay £347,940 via a Section 106 agreement to improve the local ecology, provide football pitches and highways in the local area, as well as lift access improvements to the adjacent Moreton train station so that benefits can be felt throughout the community.”

Demolition work has commenced on site.

Satplan is the planning consultant and Astle Planning & Design drew up detailed designs for the development.
