BDP to close Liverpool office

The architectural practice has taken the decision to close its office in Liverpool One but is still signed to a lease with Grosvenor for another year.

A spokesman from BDP told Place: "There are no job loses among Liverpool-based staff. The two full time staff have relocated to Manchester as existing projects in Liverpool have concluded and will assist the Manchester Studio's urbanism team to service BDP's growing international portfolio and town planning portfolio across north of England.

"BDP is still active in Liverpool and committed to its sustainable growth and development. The Liverpool premises still exists and we are working on a number of planning commissions from the office."

The highlight for the BDP Liverpool office was producing the masterplan for Grosvenor's 42-acre Liverpool One retail scheme. The studio was headed latterly by Andrew Teage, who has moved to Manchester. BDP reported profits for the year ending June 2011 of £1.96m, down 50% on 2010. BDP also plans to shut offices in Belfast, Winchester and Edinburgh.

Peter Drummond, chief executive of BDP, said: "It continues to be a challenging time for the industry and we are working hard to continue to win work in the UK and internationally. We have, to some extent, been buffered by our success in overseas markets, especially in China and India.

"BDP continues to win projects including the competition to design the new research and teaching building for the University of Cambridge, three masterplans in the Indian state of Kerala, and in China a number of major developments in Suzhou and a central business district in Hongqiao."
