Barons Quay secures another bar and restaurant venue
The team behind the Marine Street Social in New Brighton is set to open a 10,000 sq ft site overlooking the River Weaver at Barons Quay in Northwich, the retail development’s second food and drink tenant.
The Marine Street Social team are in advanced negotiations with Cheshire West & Chester council over a 6,000 sq ft unit along with a 4,000 sq ft roof terrace, which will house a bar, live music venue, and a food market concept. MSS is being advised by Barker Proudlove.
It is set to be the development’s second food and drink tenant after Wildwood, which operates a site next to the Odeon Cinema.
According to the council, once a deal is signed, occupancy at Barons Quay will be up to 64%, with talks “ongoing” with a number of other retailers and leisure organisations.
Patisserie Valerie was set to be the second food and drink tenant but the company entered administration last month.
Other retail tenants to sign up this year include Card Factory, which is relocating from its nearby premises at Weaver Square. However, Marks & Spencer announced it would be closing its store next to Barons Quay in mid-January.
Existing tenants include H&M, Sports Director, Asda, Odeon, Wildwood, and The Entertainer. Barons Quay was developed by the council at a cost of £71m and opened on a phased basis in 2016. As of April last year, it only had three tenants.
Street Social owner Carl Thomas said: “The whole team are really excited to be coming to Northwich, it’s a beautiful town, the venue stood out for us because of its positioning overlooking the river.
“We have over ten years of events experience, booking some of the biggest artists in music and we will be fully utilising our experience to bring acts to Barons Quay Social, both electronic and live.
“We will be a multipurpose space that will cater for all lovers of music, drink, food and art.”

Visited today, having moved from Kingsley 25 yrs ago. I remember Northwich as a typical Cheshire pleasant market town. What a disaster now, the heart has been ripped out of the town, Barons Quay is a a faceless place the character of the town has destroyed by this monstrosity.
