Architects designs for Liverpool’s Royal Court on display
Architects shortlisted to restore the Royal Court theatre in Liverpool will each have its designs on display at Royal Institute of British Architects' customised 'Architruck' on St Georges Plateau today from 1pm.
The seven designs, chosen from a selection of around 50, will then be exhibited in St George's Hall for two weeks to allow the public to have their say on the future of the 1938 art deco building.
The first round of submissions for an architectural competition to restore the theatre, located on Roe Street near Queen Square, closed last November.
The shortlist of seven architects were then invited to submit further detailed plans in December.
At the time the charitable Royal Court Trust, which owns the building, said the project, supported by the North West Development Agency, English Heritage and Liverpool Vision, will "upgrade, conserve and restore this valuable asset in the heart of the city".
Two Liverpool firms, Union North Architects in Hope Street, and Studio Three Architects based in Fleet Street, are amongst the finalists.
The other five on the shortlist are London firms Burrell Foley Fischer, Pentagram and AHMM; Glasgow's Nord Architects and Studio Andrew Todd from Paris.
