Approval for 81-bed care home in Worsley

Salford City Council voted to green-light the Angela Swift Developments residential facility, which will sit on the site of the demolished St Joseph’s Convent.

The 1.5-acre site sits on the corner of Greenleach Lane and Broad Oak Road in Worsley. The Victorian convent building that formerly occupied it was heavily damaged in a fire at the start of this year.

Angela Swift’s proposals will see the site redeveloped into an 81-bed care home with lounges, dining areas, and reception facilities. There would be 24-hour care provided, including for those looking to dementia, convalescence, and respite support.

The 43,000 sq ft building will boast three storeys, with the tallest largely contained within the roof structure. Each of the 81 bedrooms would be ensuites.

Access to the development would be from Broad Oak Road.

A car park with 28 bays and a dedicated ambulance parking space will be built. Of those 28 parking bays, three will be accessible and five will have electric vehicle charging capabilities.

TDC Architects led the design of the project, alongside a team that included JC Consulting, CJS Acoustics, BHA Trees, PDP, and Paul Basham Associates.

The vote to approve the project was made at last week’s Salford City Council planning committee meeting.
