Altair CPO inquiry adjourned
The inquiry into Trafford Council's Compulsory Purchase Order required to pave the way for Nikal's £100m Altair development in Altrincham has been adjourned after two days to allow additional parties to submit representations.
The CPO was made by Trafford Council on 31 December 2009 to acquire two main buildings; the Bridge Inn and a tyre garage owned by ATS Euromaster. ATS is objecting to the CPO.
Evidence was presented by Trafford Council officers and representatives of Nikal Developments during the two-day hearing in relation to proposals to acquire land for the proposed Altair mixed leisure and commercial scheme. Written representations were received from ATS Euromaster in respect its tyre depot on the site.
Petros Developments, owners of the Bridge Inn, did not make any representations and did not attend the inquiry.
Representatives of the Altrincham & Bowdon Civic Society and also the Altrincham Traders and Residents Association made representation on the second day.
The proposed six-acre development was designed by Ian Simpson Architects and will include 31 homes, 90,000 sq ft of offices, 70,000 sq ft of retail, both food and non-food, and a 125-bed hotel.
The scheme is being brought forward through the joint venture partnership between Trafford Council and developers Nikal.
The inquiry has now been adjourned by the Planning Inspectorate at the request of the council.
It is proposed to reconvene the inquiry on 4 October 2011, at Altrincham Town Hall.
