Lidl wins battle for Chorlton development site

A Lidl will sit beautifully next to Hough End Hall. I can hardly wait.

Would be great to see if Lidl can provide a high quality mixed use scheme in this location – with apartments above the shop and a lower than normal car parking provision!

What we don’t need is a big standard Lidl scheme of a store standing in a sea of car parking. This has got to be a proper, high quality mixed use scheme in this location.

Terrible news for Chorlton. If this is just another shed in a sea of car parking then I’ll be really dissappointed. As others have said this needs to be a mixed use scheme encompassing apartments and other uses as well as the store. It’s a highly sustainbale location for high density development.

3 high schools and a large primary school already generate a significant amount of traffic, let’s hope Lidl customers utilise those electric cargo bikes.

The current buildings are incredibly disrespectful to the old hall building. That should be a feature that stands out and is used for the benefit of the community. The current layout of buildings is horrendous

Definitely object to this as traffic on Nell Lane is already very bad, it’s ridiculous to put a Lidl so near three schools.

Affordable housing would be better or a mixed solution. This will cause more car issues. A clear plan to support the local traffic issues would be needed as the traffic is already a significant issue in the area

Heavy traffic In the area already, will be a nightmare

Stupid place for a super market. School traffic already makes it grid lock along Nell Lane at peak times.

This is very good news as Lidl will be great for all Chorlton residents and it will be in a fantastic location too. It will also provide added choice for shopping and will generate extra local employment.

Great, lidl do good prices and a good range. Just ensure they get car parking organised correctly, as there is a lot of traffic.

If this is a mixed use scheme with apartments (including good balconies!) then it could possibly work, otherwise move on Lidl.

Simply put – Lidl customers do not live in Chorlton. Why couldn’t we have a Waitrose or M&S food?

Please please Lidl use the site wisely with a mixed use of supermarket and much needed apartments. Minimal parking for supermarket to encourage Tram use

Chorlton has become a dump, bring back the 70s and 80s…….

This is good news . Affordable supermarket for working class folk , every little helps especially when bills are a huge strain on peoples finances

Already a busy junction with four schools,I thought the idea of larger super markets being slightly out of town to give local shops a chance ?🤷‍♂️

I know Lidl have too many shops up and down country and have ambition to open many more. I think this detrimental to national competition of food shops!!

This will be good for Chorlton, will give employment opportunities. For the construction industry and jobs for local people in the store. Lidl stores offer a good range of affordable products too!

Can’t wait for Lidl to open here, perfect for shopping after school drop off’s or before pick ups. So convenient for the local community & their prices & fresh bakery are the best!

Fully support this proposed development. Just get on with it

Can’t wait for Lidl to open in Chorlton. Please ensure plenty of parking and safe crossing for children at the school. Perhaps it could incorporate dwellings on upper floors?

Not sure who all the billionaires are currently commenting, but as a local resident I cant welcome the Lidl soon enough! The Morrisons really isn’t affordable averaging above £30 a bag of groceries. The main challenge will be ensuring the cross roads/tramline remain safe at the busy junction with the swathes of school kids thrown into the mix.
