Maghull North station approved

Merseytravel has been granted permission to build its first new rail station in more than a decade, Maghull North on the Northern Line of the Merseyrail network.

Being built by Merseyrail, Network Rail and Sefton Council, the new station would be located just off School Lane on the Ormskirk branch of the Northern Line.

The proposals include a 156-space car park, step-free access to both platforms, ticket office, secure cycle parking, passenger waiting facilities and toilet.

Merseytravel opened Liverpool South Parkway in 2006, replacing Garston and Allerton stations to link the City Line with the Northern Line via a single station across the two lines. Prior to this, Wavertree Technology Park opened in 2000 and Conway Park, Birkenhead in 1998.

The £13m project is being funded through the Local Growth Fund, Merseytravel and the Homes & Communities Agency.

The scheme is due to start on site in August 2017, for an opening in May 2018.

That’s the suburban one. Focus needs to be on Vauxhall/Stanley Dock now, then Paddington… And!… a direct link to LJLA! It’s only a short hop from junctions around South Parkway! The new mayor (Steve) needs to start planning for this as it would be a game changer for the City Region… Needs to be planned so the new 2018 trains will cope with the demand this will create. Think ahead and get it all coordinated!
