Barnfield to extend Original Factory Shop

Nelson-based Barnfield Construction has signed an agreement with The Original Factory Shop to build a new 100,000 sq ft extension at its head office at Orient Business Park in Burnley, Lancashire.

The design and build contract, due to be carried out over the next five months, will increase the low priced department store chain's headquarters by nearly double to 250,000 sq ft. The Original Factory Shop sees this as an integral part of its business plan to sustain its rapid expansion plans over the next five years.

Tim Webber, managing director at Barnfield Construction, said: "We previously owned all of the land that the head office is situated on, having built the unit for Vita Achter some years previously, but sold a proportion 3 years ago to Alpinemoor Pension Fund. To complete the deal with The Original Factory Shop, Barnfield Construction reacquired 40,000 sq ft of warehousing and associated land at the site. We are delighted with the outcome of this agreement."

The agreement was handled by James Horsley of the Yorkshire Property Company and Mark Bruce Lockhart of Phillips Lockhart, a real estate investment consultancy in London.

Both have worked with The Original Factory Shop and Barnfield Construction for many years. Details of the project cost was not disclosed.
