Motor group picks up final Beacon 62 plot

Hatfields has acquired the remaining six-acre site within HBD Barnfield’s motorway junction scheme in Huyton.

HBD Barnfield, a joint venture partnership between property developer HBD and Barnfield Group, delivered an 18,000 sq ft Aldi supermarket at the 11,5-acre site as phase one.

Work is now under way on the second plot, a Euro Garages service station incorporating a McDonald’s and a Starbucks.

Barnfield Construction will carry out all building works on the plot for Hatfields, a dealer for Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo models.

The deal, for an undisclosed sum, represents the end of HBD Barnfield’s involvement at the site, where Savills and Mason Owen have acted as joint agents.

Dan Lawrenson, development surveyor at HBD, said: “It’s great to see Beacon 62 completed with the sale of the final phase to Hatfields.

“This site originally had planning permission back in 2011 but progress had stalled until HBD and Barnfield acquired it several years ago – it’s an important gateway site to Huyton so it’s positive to see it redeveloped.”

Tracy Clavell-Bate, head of development for Barnfield Developments, added: “Beacon 62 is a thriving new business and retail destination in Huyton – we’re very pleased to be able to welcome Hatfields; we’ve no doubt its newest location will prove very successful.”

HBD, part of Henry Boot PLC, is having an active 2021. Acquisitions include Manchester business park City Court, bought last week for £5.8m,  and Skelmersdale’s Allied Business Centre, while work continues apace at Kampus, the firm’s central Manchester scheme in partnership with Capital & Centric.

Barnfield’s construction business has recently completed the £22m Alderbank residential scheme in Altrincham for Real Estate Investment Partnerships.

The joint venture is also busy on East, an 18-acre industrial scheme close to Preston.
