5plus expands into London

5plus Architects, set up in 2010 by former HKR Manchester staff following the office's closure, has opened a London base headed by ex-HKR director David King-Smith.

The fledgling practice has grown from 13 to 27 staff in 15 months and won high-profile projects including Airport City in Manchester and the £27m refurbishment of Trafford Town Hall.

King-Smith will head up a team of nine people in London, where 5plus has also won work for developers and funds including Royal London Asset Management and Development Securities.

Jon Matthews, director of 5plus, said: "The new office has been driven entirely by workload and a requirement to deliver projects nationally – it is not a speculative punt on a new city."
