Work underway on QDOS Fitness debut
Gym start-up QDOS Fitness is on site with its first facility; an 11,000 sq ft centre in south Manchester designed by C4 Consulting and NoChintz, being built by Pochin.
The gym in Styal Road, close to Heald Green, Gatley and Wythenshawe, will follow the so-called functional fitness method of training, based on preparing the body to handle real-life situations rather than simply using fitness machines.
QDOS founder Adam Chapman said: "We will be first bespoke built 'functional fitness' facility in the UK.
"We will have 40m2 of solar panels and meet a BREEAM rating of 'very good'. We are using extensive amounts of recycled materials including rubber for the workout flooring and even used tyres for the light fittings. We have a world champion mountaineer designing and fabricating our climbing peg board and all of our gym equipment is manufactured locally by a former marine."
Some of the features will be:
- Large integrated rig for pull ups, gymnastic rings and monkey bars
- Outdoor training area for use of the sprint sleds and prowlers
- 1,000s of kg of Olympic Bumber plates and bars
- Full range of kettle bells
- Climbing ropes and cargo nets
- Strongman equipment
Doors are due to open to members on Monday 12 August 2013.
