Work starts on affordable Wythenshawe flats

Rowlinson has started building apartments for Wythenshawe Community Housing Group on a site formerly owned by the Roman Catholic Diocese.

The scheme at Woodhouse Lane will see the construction of 18 flats for affordable rent. The £2.4m project includes £468,000 funding from Homes England.

Funds from the sale of the land will go towards the creation of a community space in Wythenshawe.

The design by Modern City Architects & Urbanism is intended to pay homage to the former church on the site, through features such as brick detailing. The scheme also includes a sustainable drainage system and electric vehicle charging points.

David Chilton, managing director, Rowlinson said: “This is a great partnership which sees land released to build much needed affordable new homes in Wythenshawe and funding being unlocked to help the Diocese build a community centre.”

Work is currently under way on the development and will complete in early 2020.
