Work completes on West Lakes college
Esh Build has completed a £7m college in West Cumbria which will specialise in construction skills.
The 36,000 sq ft Britain's Energy Coast Construction Skills Centre at Lakes College, Lillyhall, will be officially opened on Thursday by Brian Wilson, chairman of economic development organisation Britain's Energy Coast; Tom Zarges, chairman of Nuclear Management Partners; and Stephen Henwood, chairman of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.
Nuclear Management Partners, which runs Sellafield, invested £4m in the centre while Britain's Energy Coast Campus, through funding partner the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, provided £2m. Lakes College invested £1m in new equipment. Construction was project managed by Cumbria County Council.
The centre was completed ahead of schedule and on budget and will become fully operational when the new academic year starts in September.
The architect was Day Cummins.
Work on the centre started in May 2012.
