As well as these smaller sites there are four new major sites of development for housing and business use proposed in the Allocations Plan.
These are South of Hindley, East of Atherton, South of Atherton and Pocket Nook, Lowton. These major sites will contribute significantly to the future demand for housing and employment land.

The public will be able to find out more and have their say on plans for a new congestion-busting link road between central Wigan and the M6 and M58 motorways.
Wigan Council is planning to build the new M58/M6 link road as part of its long-term plan to improve the transport infrastructure across the borough.
The 1.4 mile road will form part of a series of planned cross-borough link roads to relieve congestion hot spots.
The link road will connect the M58/M6 motorway junction through to Billinge Road and on to Pemberton Business Park where it will connect to the existing roundabout at Smithy Brook Road.
As well as providing significant relief to the busy A577 through Pemberton and Newtown, the road will open up areas for new housing and business development creating new jobs and boosting the local economy.
A public drop-in consultation session is due to take place between 1pm and 7pm on Tuesday 3 November at Lamberhead Green Working Men’s Club, White Street, Pemberton.
