Whistl signs for 140,000 sq ft in Wigan
The e-commerce firm has inked a 15-year pre-let at PLP’s Astley Park.
The Whistl deal means there is 215,000 sq ft of speculative space across three units left available at the 360,000 sq ft Wigan industrial development.
Whistl’s unit is being built by Tanro and is due to complete early next year.
PLP, which is owned by La Caisse, Peel Group, and Macquarie Asset Management, acquired the 19-acre development site from Peel Waters earlier this year.
Matt Fitton, development director at PLP, said: “Whistl’s early commitment to PLP Astley is a strong endorsement of the development and the quality of the scheme.
“Securing such a high-calibre occupier at this stage is a fantastic start and sets a great precedent for future lettings across the remaining units.”
Newmark advised Whistl and B8RE represented PLP.
The four-unit PLP Astley comprises four buildings ranging from 35,000 sq ft to 145,000 sq ft and is targeting BREEAM Excellent and EPC A ratings.
How is Astley in Wigan🤷

This development is made up of enormous, unsightly units that will tower over nearby housing. Added to that will be the pollution and noise that the lorries and the businesses will produce. I presume there will be disruption 24/7. The council that backed this don’t care about the people who have to live near it.

And what about the residents who weren’t informed of the scale of these eyesores right behind their properties?
Scandalous from Peel and Wigan Council.
The roads are crippled and do not support the quantity of HGVs and then there’s the traffic…aka Astley car park created by Peel and their councilor employees.

It’s employment, jobs and a final piece of a development that’s stood still for years, allocated and located close to the East Lancs, How is this scandalous, I doubt Peel and the Council are responsible for a car biased, internet delivery loving society.

The infrastructure locally already struggles with traffic from early morning , this development will be bringing a massive increase in HGV traffic to an already overloaded rd system. Just great !!!!

Residents house prices dropping like stones ,they never did a search before snapping up houses that the previous residents never wanted

I live close to the development. It is disgusting the size and scale of the units Vs the near by housing. Everybody involved in this develoment should be ashamed of themselves in particular Peel who have once again made profit out of the good people of Astley.

This development has ruined our lives. It should have never been built. Nor should it have ever been considered to be smack in the middle of a residential area and a primary school. The house prices have dropped and they’re our biggest asset! Its absolutely ridiculous.
