West Lancs approves 40,000 sq ft Skelmersdale leisure centre

Nye Bevan Swimming Pool will be knocked down and replaced with a modern facility a stone’s throw away.

West Lancashire Council has given itself planning permission for a 40,000 sq ft leisure and wellbeing facility on a 2.5-acre plot immediately north of Tawd Valley Centre in Skelmersdale.

The complex will feature a 25-metre pool with six lanes, a learner pool, a 110-station fitness suite, a large fitness studio, a spin studio, a cafe, and a soft play zone.

The project is being delivered by West Lancs in partnership with Alliance Leisure.

The existing Nye Bevan Swimming Pool located west of Concourse Shopping Centre will be demolished once the new facility has been delivered.

A planning statement prepared by consultancy DPP states that the 1970s facility is reaching the end of its economic life and has seen a decline in users due to its age.

GT3 Architects is leading on design.

Again where’s is wildlife to go. .you spend and used so much on warehouse shops that we didn’t need and now this complex looks like another home box with no design. Where’s the trees hedges and wildlife corridor to hide these buildings. Why isn’t this getting built on the old college site. Why are facilities or development not being built about long term with sustainability solar etc. skelmersdale deserves better. The only reason Skelmersdale was valued was it trees fields and wildlife and now that is in serious declinne with no thought of the future or climate change. Consult the public openly

Well done West Lancashire council nice to see you spending money on something we need

Good news, but what Skem really needs is a link to Liverpool’s metro. It would open up easier access to jobs and services but then, we just don’t do critical infrastructure in this country, do we? Unless it’s called Crossrail or the Elizabeth Line and has a London postcode.
