VIDEO PODCAST | Getting regeneration right
Prime Minister Keir Starmer promised a “decade of urban renewal” when his party won the last general election. As the government refocuses its efforts on regeneration, Place North spoke with two leaders in the field on how to best conduct these largescale, transformational projects.
Onward Homes is a non-profit housing association that manages 35,000 properties across the North West. For the past 20 years, it has been revitalising the community of Hattersley. Currently, Onward is working on regeneration projects in Preston and North Liverpool, utilising the expertise of its director of growth and regeneration, Stephen Heverin.
Muse has become the de facto partner for local authorities looking to breathe new life into their town centres, with projects in St Helens, Salford, Wythenshawe, Oldham, Stockport, and more. Leading those North West projects is regional managing director Phil Marsden.
Reflecting on past successes and looking forward on current schemes, Heverin and Marsden broke down what works, what does not, and the absolute essentials for a successful regeneration project during this podcast episode. Along the way, they discussed New Towns, Will Alsop’s ‘The Cloud’, and the importance of resilience.
