VIDEO | Crescent Salford: Inclusive growth in action
The £2.5bn Crescent Salford masterplan is one of the country’s largest and most ambitious regeneration schemes. Project partners ECF, Salford City Council, and the University of Salford are hard at work turning the vision into a reality for the benefit of local people.
Featuring 1.5m sq ft of innovation workspace, 2.5m sq ft of new and improved public realm, and 3,000 homes, the masterplan aims to transform a chunk of the city that has for years punched below its weight.
With the university at its heart, Crescent Salford presents an opportunity not only to improve the built environment, but to create a place with learning at its heart and forge lasting links between the local community, business, and academia.
“It is about connections,” said Kurt Partington, head of development at Salford City Council.
“It is not just about building things, success to me will be whether we can make a genuine difference in deprivation in Salford.
“We have got to have good growth and opportunities to change people’s lives. Crescent has the opportunity to do that.”

Along with The Northern Gateway project , and the redevelopment of the Cheetham hill area this has got to be one of the most significant once in a lifetime long term projects across Manchester and a chance to make a huge long term difference to The Crescent area and access into the city centre. I hope they get it right.

Excellent if they get it right. As the city centre expands out in the direction of Salford we need this level of carefully considered planning. I hope they make best use of the wide arterial road that is the crescent when travelling into the city though because they certainly don’t at the moment.

Salford Crescent development is a sleeping giant – its position, connectivity, institutions and history will be so compelling.

As has been mentioned, that’s one of several mega projects being undertaken around Manchester now. Bring it on!
