Urban Vision driving Salford regeneration forward

Salford-based public-private partnership Urban Vision is driving the regeneration of the borough via a scheme designed to address the planning and renewal needs of 'intermediate' European cities.

NeT-Topic has been created to address the needs of 'peripheral' cities, located in metropolitan areas and near to large cities.

Other cities in the network include:

  • L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Spain
  • Nanterre, France
  • Siemianowice Slaskie, Poland
  • Haidari, Greece
  • Barakaldo, Spain – Basque Region
  • Sesto San Giovanni, Italy
  • Sacele, Romania
  • Kladno, Czech Republic

Last month, Salford and its eight European partner cities celebrated gaining funding from the Urbact II funding stream, which is part of the European Regional Development Fund, ensuring the project can continue.

Urban Vision is a joint venture company formed by Salford Council, Capita Symonds and Morrison Highway Maintenance.

Working closely with Salford Council, Urban Vision will manage Salford's involvement with Net-Topic, coordinating a local support group, made up of interested stakeholders, by organising a 'best practice' partner event in Salford, and maximising the benefit of the project for the city.

Net-Topic will concentrate on issues such as the use of vacant industrial land, social cohesion and city identity, the planning process and urban governance.

Over three years several seminars and workshops will be held, attended by experts from across Europe.

Net-Topic will be driven forward by a local support group to ensure that the network benefits the city at a local level.
